AASP Honorary Membership, For his dedication and service to the Association over the many decades, service to the AASP Foundation, and exceptional research towards non-stratigraphic palynology including melissopalynology, archaeological, and forensic palynology.

It is an honor to be able to introduce Vaughn M. Bryant, as recipient of AASP Honorary Membership. There are many others here today who have known Vaughn a lot longer than I have, but over my last 8 years as Secretary-Treasurer I’ve had to work with Vaughn almost on a day-to-day basis as we’ve investigated claims for lost AASP publications, and claims for publications from Institutions that were not even members! In many of these situations, Vaughn showed much more patience than I did (recall an e-mail message that I inadvertently sent to Swets Subscriptions Services immediately comes to mind!...Vaughn handled the drama very well).
In an Association initiated by and dominated by stratigraphic palynologists, as a botanist and anthropologist Vaughn has definitely made his mark. Not bad for someone who was told by his Ph.D. advisor NOT to join that Association founded by a bunch of geologists. I could go through the long list of his service to the Association, and I could mention some of his more important research topics and his varied work at Texas A&M University, but that …
