The AASP Distinguished Service Award, For his long years of service as Managing Editor of the American Association of Stratigraphic Palynologists and editorship of the Proceedings of the Ninth International Palynological Congress volume

David K. Goodman is a longtime member of AASP. He says he thinks he joined in 1975. Dave served as a Councilor in 1986–1987 and accepted the position of Journal Editor in December 1986. Little did Dave know that when he accepted the position of Journal Editor, to produce Palynology volume 11, that it would turn into the position of Managing Editor the following year. Dave would continue in that position through the year 2000 when Palynology volume 24 was published. A span of 13 years (and 14 volumes of Palynology), and the longest tour of duty of any AASP officer!

When Dave took over the position of Journal Editor (Doug Nichols was then Managing Editor) the publication Palynology was printed in Austin, Texas, by Hart Graphics. By late 1991 it became readily apparent that the costs to produce Palynology were escalating dramatically and AASP needed to look at other means to produce and publish the volumes. Discussions at the April 10, 1992, AASP Mid-Year meeting in Denver, Colorado, solidified the position that AASP should undertake the desktop publishing aspect of producing Palynology and look into other printing options and . . .
