MIDDLE CRETACEOUS MICROFLORA FROM THE HUINCUL FORMATION ("DINOSAURIAN BEDS") IN THE NEUQUÉN BASIN, PATAGONIA, ARGENTINA

PATRICIA VALLATI

Facultad de Ciencias Naturales, Universidad Nacional de la Patagonia San Juan Bosco, Km. 4 - (9001) Comodoro Rivadavia, Argentina

This paper reports the palynology of the Huincul Formation, a lower unit of the Pehuenche Group (= "Neuquén" Group, = "Dinosaurian Beds"). Angiosperm pollen grains of monosulcate, tricolpate, tricolporoidate and tricolporate types are the prevailing forms in this assemblage. The Huincul microflora, which includes 40 taxa, is here compared with other Cretaceous pollen assemblages from Patagonia as well as from other regions of the world. An Albian?–Cenomanian age is here suggested for the Huincul assemblage.
